Narrative Project: Research 18th Century


These are some important things that happened during 1700-1800. According to their importance they will be put in our animation and help us with the story.


-1687: Isaac Newton  publishes Mathematical Principles of Natural PhilosophyThe second edition of this series of books was in 1713 and the third in 1726.

-1688: Isaac Newton has been generally credited for building the first reflecting telescope.

-1701: Jethro Tull invents the seed drill.

-1704: Isaac Newton publishes the theory of color and the nature of so called primary colors.

-1709: Bartholomeo Cristofori invents the piano.

-1712: Thomas Newcomen pattens the atmospheric steam engine.

-1713: Peace of Utrecht comprises a series of individual peace treaties rather than a single document.

-1717: Edmond Halley invents the diving bell.

-1721: Montesquieu's Persian Letters novel is being written.

-1722: French C. Hopffer patents the fire extinguisher 

-1724: Gabriel Fahrenheit invents the first mercury thermometer.

-1733: John Kay invents the flying shuttle. 

-1733: Alexander Pope with his work "Essay on Man" expressed the optimism and respect for reason that marked that era.

-1734: Joseph Wright was born. He was a famous British painter to express the spirit of industrialization.

-1748: Montesquieu's political theory Spirit of Laws is being published.

-1762: Rousseau's Social Contract was published expressing the best way to set up a political community.

-1764: Dictionnaire Encyclopédique is an encyclopedic dictionary published by Voltaire.

-1774: A court case ended slavery.

-1781: Immanuel Kant published Critique of Pure Reason in 1781. Expressing the new age of philosophic idealism. The second edition was published in 1787.

-1789: The French revolution began.

-1796: Edward Jenner first published the process of vaccination.
